Francis Fran Bennett's very being is a beautiful teaching.
I used to be an ignorant trans-phobe until I took responsibility for my discomfort and judgements. Curiosity is so much more fun.
Check out the video then read Fran's answer about changing gender below...
"IF YOU HAVE HAD SPIRITUAL AWAKENING TO WHO YOU ARE BEYOND BODY AND MIND, NAME AND FORM....WHY WOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR BODY AND TRANSITION GENDER??
Q: Since you have had an awakening in which you realize that "you are not your body" Why would you change your body to the extent of transitioning your gender presentation to female after being raised as and presenting to the world as male for 50 years or more? I do not mean this disrespectfully and am honestly wanting to know and understand your experience better. Thank you
My A:
Thanks for the question, I get it a lot.....❤ Well, I would first of all say that I have awakened to the realization that I am not exclusively or ONLY a body and mind identity...but that does not mean that a body and mind are not included in who and what I am.
It just felt like it was time to make that transition physically...Maybe similarly to someone who had been overweight, perhaps their entire lives, feeling like it was time to finally lose the weight...Or someone who had a cleft pallet all their life finding an opportunity to fix that and feeling like it was high time they did.....My being female may seem like a new and novel thing to all of you. I did not talk about it for years, so virtually noone knew about it.. But this sense of a female gender identity is nothing new to me at all. It did not just arise last week or last year or even 20 years ago. I have felt female my entire life, I just got very good at hiding it and appearing/acting as if I were male because I was rather ashamed of it for some reason....But I was at a point in my life after profound awakening where I was no longer ashamed and could finally let go of that acting like someone I was not, which had become rather second nature to me....and just be fully myself without apology on the level of the body/personality. And it simply felt like the right thing to do and the right time to do it....Contrary to common beliefs or assumptions about what awakened living is supposed to look like, which often would not see transitioning gender as a possibility for someone really awakened on a deep level.....
I was actually able to transition gender BECAUSE of my awakening...not in spite of it.
Not all trans people feel the need to transition to that extent...or they maybe do not feel a need to transition physically at all, like I am doing...and that is perfect for them.....but i did feel a need to transition physically in order to reflect my inner reality in an outward way....and so I have done that to the extent that I have...and my journey with that is only about at mid point..there is still further to go on a physical level....with more hormone treatment and eventual gender reassignment surgery, which I look forward to more all the time
And I would imagine that my sense of identity as "female" on the level of heart, spirit and mind will be a lifetime discovery that is never really finished...an ongoing unfolding and revelation of what it means for me to be a woman. I think that this sense of an ongoing discovery is true for any woman, trans or cis-gender alike. <3 Love, ~fran"
