Rollercoaster

"I “see” a metaphysical hole near most people’s navels that’s created when the umbilical cord is cut. There is a huge amount of grief in this “separation” — which is why (among other obvious reasons) that babies cry so much. And I’ve seen thousands if not millions who are going from place to place, trying to achieve this or that, and burying feelings we’ve been led to believe are unpleasant, all in effort to quench this heavily disguised thirst for reconnection. Everything from Facebook to alcohol to relationships to the search for health, wealth, and even life’s meanings can be seen as weapons of mass distraction. To quote the tune, we’re “looking for love in all the wrong places.”

That’s not to say we’re here to solely suffer or to sit on a meditation cushion 24/7 or to wander the desert for 40 years (unless you want to of course!) all to reconnect with what most call God. I’ve found that God can be seen in the stories of humanity, or in the more cliché but just as real waves of the ocean. And I think the Source of creation wants us to experience all of life’s ups and downs because despite all of our efforts to “not do anger” or to bury our grief, I’ve yet to meet anyone who’s healthy and thriving who’s also denied these aspects.

Our own grief that’s formed as a result of the initial separation needs to be felt, honored, and embraced for us to heal. Likewise the anger we’ve created within us by thinking we know more than God does. (Human arrogance at its finest!) Only by riding the all-inclusive rollercoaster can we heal and truly thrive. And if we can really trust the process, maybe we can remove the seatbelt and let go of white knuckling to the safety bars to really feel the depths of what we came here to experience: the journey from disconnection to reconnection that includes everything in between."
