My mother, Arletta Smith, received this 750 Piece Shaped Puzzle from my sister-in-law Jackie Smith. These unique jigsaw puzzles don't have any straight edges, so the frame that you are used to using as a guideline to start a jigsaw puzzle can't actually be put together first! Arletta is proud of being able to put it together.
Arletta is experiencing the challenges of the normal changes of aging - changes in her body, activities, memory and relationships. I've read that, "There are just as many mental hurdles that need to be overcome for the aging parent -- like accepting care and depending upon someone else almost entirely, as there are for the adult child in charge of their care."
The ideal of greater intimacy as a parent ages is sometimes illusive. Denise and I are still not comfortable with the switch in roles. Those of you who provide care to an elder will understand that painful realities must be confronted and difficult decisions must be made; hopefully while keeping an open heart. It can be like a puzzle with no certain edges.
