Just Buddha - Kwong

“When the sun first comes up and shines on you, your shadow is big behind you. But as you continue to sit, your shadow gets smaller and smaller, until finally it’s just Buddha sitting there.”

"The first time our sangha took care of our vineyard, we were afraid to really cut and prune the vine. I don't have a background in horticulture and it was difficult to decide which branches to cut. After ten or twelve years, though, we learned from our mistakes. We learned that the more severely we pruned in winter, the greater the growth in spring.

This is true for many aspects of our practice, which help us burn the fuel of delusion. And it is an essential part of receiving. Before you receive, you must cut...  entitlements, attachments, paranoias, desires, ...we cling to these relics for years...

we need the sharp shears of teachers and sanghas - to help with the lopping. After some years, we might together learn from our mistakes. Limb after limb, fall away."
