Complexion?

"Right after I turned forty a couple of years ago, I slipped away to get tea before our concert’s sound check. A woman seated at one of the café tables stopped me. “Excuse me, Snatam,” she said, looking up from a pile of books and papers spread all over her table.

“Can I ask you a question?” “Sure!” I responded, my eyes squinting in the August sun. I had met the woman earlier and knew that she was attending our concert. “How do you have such a good complexion?” she asked. “I’m a vegetarian; I wake up before the sun rises, take a cold shower, and practice yoga and meditation,” I replied.

"Oh,” she said, looking a little disappointed. Her eyes dropped back to her papers and books. I’m guessing she would have preferred the name of a good facial cream."

~ Snatam Kaur is an American singer, peace activist and author raised in the Sikh and Kundalini Yoga tradition. She has an amazing ability to transform traditional Sikh chants of India into a contemporary sound that appeals to the modern ear and awakens an ancient yearning in the soul.
