The Dreamer

If physical death is the price that I must pay to free my white brothers and sisters from a permanent death of the spirit, then nothing can be more redemptive. ~ Martin Luther King Jr.

Today, one of my passengers asked me if the bus would be running on Martin Luther King Jr day. Then they asked, "Do you know why we even still have a King holiday?"

The plaque outside the room where King stayed the night before he was assassinated, reads, "Behold, here cometh the dreamer, let us slay him and see what becomes of his dream." The verse comes from the Joseph story in Genesis 37:19-20.
