This from a friend who knows about duality... ;)
(Someone once said to me that there is a fine line between the prophetic voice and being an ass! Fran is not an ass but a prophetic voice for our time.)
Just for the record, my ongoing "argument" with neo-"non-duality" or neo-advaita, is not about arguing for the sake of arguing...It is not about needing to be "right" and not about a need to make someone else "wrong".....It is about a fundamental disagreement.....
I must fundamentally disagree with an ideology/philosophy that divides reality into the two categories of Spirit and Matter...and then says that only Spirit is significant or real and that matter does not matter at all! (yes, pun intended!) tongue emoticon:P
Such a point of view is damaging, and HAS damaged, many people...It is an unintegrated and unbalanced philosophy of life in its denial of the personal dimension. It is spiritual bypassing at its worst, and it has caused a tremendous amount of harm to countless lives for about the past 25 years or more. It is not at all "radical non duality" as is so often claimed and assumed..It is, in fact, quite dualistic. It is actually radical duality.
And for the record...I do not dislike anyone....whether they fancy themselves "non-dual" or not...I may disagree, but that in no way implies active "dislike" or hatred...at least not for me.
But i must say, I find the western post-modern "non-duality" or neo-adavita, to be one of the most dualistic philosophical points of view I have ever encountered in all my life....and I have encountered a veritable plethora of philosophical views over the many years of pastoral work I have engaged in for the past 2 decades. The irony of the radical duality of what is often called "radical NON-duality" sometimes is so striking and stunning that it almost takes my breath away! It is positively "Manichean" in its division of reality into the 2 (dual) categories of Spirit and matter.... It is anything but "non-dual".
My concern about it and my speaking out against it, is motivated by what I would have to call, "a loving and compassionate pastoral concern" for those caught up in such a damaging and life-denying philosophical point of view. It feels like a duty or responsibility to speak out against it as a spiritual guide. And I take my job as a spirit guide very seriously.....even though you or others may not.
